1) Core functions of Public health are: â⬠¢ Assessment: Monitoring the health needs of a community along with investigating and analyzing the health hazards. This helps in diagnosing the extent of a health issue and hence aids in the development of health interventions. Assessment helps in accumulating information on the status of a public health problem within a community using approaches such a statistics, epidemiologic studies etc. â⬠¢ Policy Development: This is required to address the health needs of a community and develop policies that would eventually govern public health. This also helps in developing collaborations between the public and public health agencies. Social Justice emphasizes that everyone is entitled to minimal level of income, housing and healthcare. It sees community well-being more important than an individual. There is a strong drive towards a community responsibility to health services. It needs an active involvement of the government in ensuring that basic community needs are met. They are not necessarily antagonistic in nature. Both market justice and social justice emphasizes on the individualââ¬â¢s welfare but the philosophies used entail different methods to attain this goal. Both philosophies take time to be acknowledged and understood by the public. Both govern some of the basic human rights. Social justice governs the rights of the community to access basic healthcare and housing whereas market justice gives the freedom to an individual to do own or sell properties for personal gratification. Both govern freedom of choice and action. 3) Purpose of Healthy People initiatives is to promote health and prevent diseases envisioning healthy communities. It entails an elaborate set of aims that caters towards improving health within a community and eventually the nation.
